OSF HealthCare: A Major Player in Transforming Health Care

When you think about the health care entities coming up with innovative ways to improve health care, you likely think about familiar names like the Mayo Clinic, Kaiser Permanente or the Cleveland Clinic. However, OSF HealthCare is also making major transformations in care through OSF Innovation, a multidisciplinary center and program focused on internal and external innovation to reinvent the health care delivery system of the future.
Over the past year, the OSF Innovation team has developed a standard for how multidisciplinary teams will approach, collaborate and innovate around the toughest problems in health care. It has expanded access to primary care clinics by remodeling the way these facilities operate and has adopted a framework to measure the success of the educational and training programs we offer. Jump Simulation, part of OSF Innovation and a collaboration with University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria, has been involved in these projects every step of the way.
As part of the Jump ARCHES (Applied Research for Community Health through Engineering and Simulation) program, a partnership with the Health Care Engineering Systems Center (HCESC) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, we are funding teams of physicians and engineers working together to develop technologies and devices that could revolutionize medical training and health care delivery.
This unique program has led to the creation of more than 15 projects that will soon make their debut to entrepreneurs and those looking to get into the health care industry in the Chicago area.

Inspiring the Synergy of Education, Engineering and Entrepreneurial Spirit

Jump ARCHES will exhibit and demo 16 health care solutions developed by teams of physicians and engineers Thursday, October 12 at MATTER in Chicago. These include a new virtual reality tool to transform how medical school lectures are presented and a robotic hand with tactile sensors for patients who’ve lost arm mobility.
OSF became a founding member of MATTER, a Chicago-based incubator for health care entrepreneurs in November, 2014. In 2016, it partnered with the incubator to develop The OSF Simulation Stage at MATTER, a flexible simulation space to test early-stage health care solutions.
Through this ongoing relationship, we’ve learned that the MATTER community is full of people with the entrepreneurial spirit to disrupt the health care industry. It’s this entrepreneurial spirit we believe can be combined with the technologies and devices we’ve created through the Jump ARCHES program to overhaul training of the medical practitioners of tomorrow as well as offer solutions to improve health care quality and care.

A Celebration of Our Innovation Efforts

It’s our hope that we find more opportunities for collaboration in the Chicago area. We acknowledge that there’s a community of CEOs, CFOs and CTOs within MATTER who we can inspire to work with us in bringing different ideas to market.
Beyond the opportunity to network and showcase the innovative work accomplished through the Jump ARCHES program, this is also a moment to stop and celebrate how this unique partnership has demonstrated the benefits of merging clinicians with engineers to hypothesize, prototype and test various health care solutions. We can’t wait to see how possibly partnering with entrepreneurs from MATTER will expand our capabilities to transform health care.
Learn more and register for the Jump ARCHES Virtual Reality and Medical Simulation Showcase on Thursday, October 12 at MATTER from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
